This month Roots is honored to host a one-of-a-kind event: a Book Launch & Live Blacksmith Demonstration!

Hannah Rose Martin and Teresa Kim Pecinovsky will be reading from and signing their new children’s book, SPARKING PEACE, which will also be available for sale! Then, RAWtools will be putting on a live demonstration of forging a firearm into a gardening tool. (Gardening tools forged from guns will also be available for sale.)

Sparking Peace provides a springboard for those seeking to discuss gun violence and trauma with children in a safe way that highlights help rather than harm. This picture book helps children learn about conflict while also carefully addressing gun violence and peacemaking.”

RAWtools is an organization committed to proliferating peacemaking.

We are comprehensive in our efforts to move communities away from violence. It’s not enough to just make tools from guns. We need to help teach each other new ways to solve our problems through relationship, dialogue, and alternative means of justice.”

We’ll start at 10am with our Lovefeast Sunday service, including book readings and creative activities for kids, and conclude with pizza and a live blacksmith demonstration, forging guns into gardening tools. There will also be time for signing books!

There will also be a creative activity for kids and Roots will provide a pizza lunch. This will be a very fun, family-friendly event. So bring the kids!
